Fotis Skordas started playing the cello at the age of 9. He completed his Bachelor degree at The Elder Conservatorium of Music at Adelaide University, and studied under Yanis Laures, then Principal Cello of the Australian String Quartet. He moved to Perth when he joined WASO in 1988.
He was a founding member of the I’Cellesti Cello Quartet in 1995, and undertook a number of Australian and Japan tours with this ensemble. Fotis has very fond memories of Lynn Harrell performing Elgar's Cello Concerto 1997-98. He was excited to be able to play one of the best known works of the repertoire with one of the most highly regarded cellists of our time, and still regards this as a pinnacle moment in his career.
Fotis' chair is supported by unnamed donor through the Duet program.
