Giovanni was brought up in a musical family, and initially began learning the cello. A few years later, he was awarded a scholarship through the West Australian Youth Orchestra (WAYO) to play the double bass. His formative training was nurtured by WASO Double Bassist, Christine Reitzenstein.
In 2015, Giovanni attained his Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, under the tutelage of WASO Principal Double Bass, Andrew Sinclair. He furthered his studies at the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne with New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Associate Principal Double Bass, Damien Eckersley.
Between 2011 and 2016, Giovanni was involved in numerous programs with the Australian Youth Orchestra, including their International Tour in 2016.
Whilst over east, Giovanni enjoyed a varied freelance schedule working primarily with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and Victorian Opera. Other engagements saw him perform with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. In 2018, he appeared as Guest Principal Double Bass with the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra in Singapore. Giovanni relocated back to Perth in 2022 to undertake a contract at WASO.
Giovanni tutors double bass students, both privately and in schools across Perth. He continues to maintain a close relationship with WAYO, enjoying roles as tutor, audition panel member and previously, operations assistant.
Giovanni has the privilege of performing on a double bass crafted by Gabriel Jacquet-Gand circa 1875, restored by luthier and former WASO Double Bassist, Andrew Tait.
Giovanni is extremely grateful for the support from his parents in forging his musical career.
