Originally from Sydney, Robin was born into a musical family, taking early lessons from his father Neil Brawley (Assistant Principal Double Bass, Sydney Symphony Orchestra).
He later attained a Bachelor of Music Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music studying under Alex Henery (Principal Double Bass, Sydney Symphony Orchestra) and Maxime Bibeau (Principal Double Bass, Australian Chamber Orchestra).
In 2010, Robin accepted a tenured position with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, continuing there until 2015, whereupon he left to continue his studies.
Robin earned a Post Baccalaureate Diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, USA studying under Hal Robinson (Principal Double Bass, Philadelphia Orchestra) and Edgar Meyer (soloist, chamber musician and composer), graduating with a 4.0 GPA.
Whilst based in the USA, Robin was twice awarded a full tuition scholarship for the Aspen Music Festival and School as a fellowship mentor for the Center for Orchestral Leadership program.
Returning to Australia in 2018, Robin worked as a freelance musician until the COVID-19 pandemic spurred a career change to the Royal Australian Navy, where he was commissioned as an Officer and underwent training as a Maritime Warfare Officer at HMAS Watson.
Deciding to return to music, Robin joined WASO in 2023, leaving the RAN as a Sub Lieutenant.
Robin plays on a double bass formerly used by his father, made by Dominico Busan, Venice, circa 1766.
