Eve McEwen was born and raised in Sydney and took up the horn at age nine. She attended Newtown High School of the Performing Arts before completing her Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating in 2018. During her studies, Eve was awarded the Greenberg Gurney Jensen Scholarship and the Richard Merewether Memorial Prize for the highest mark in horn studies. She also won the Henderson Travellers Scholarship with her wind quintet.
Eve continued her studies at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), graduating in 2021. During her time at ANAM, Eve studied with Carla Blackwood, Ben Jacks, Saul Lewis and Andrew Bain. In 2022, she was invited to perform Mozart’s Horn Concerto No.2 with the ANAM orchestra alongside David Elton.
Prior to joining WASO, Eve worked as a freelance musician with the Sydney Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony and Opera Australia Orchestras and has performed as Guest Principal Horn with Orchestra Victoria, and Guest Associate Principal Horn with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Eve has also appeared on numerous movie and video game soundtrack recordings.
Outside of music, Eve enjoys cooking and building her increasingly unmanageable indoor plant collection.
The Horn section is supported by Rod and Margaret Marston through the Duet program.
