A graduate of Elder Conservatorium with an Honours degree in Music and a Diploma of Education, Alex studied timpani and percussion with Richard Smith before moving to Brisbane to study with Alan Cumberland. During this time, he regularly performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra and as a freelance artist.
He has worked with major Australian orchestras including Adelaide, Melbourne and Queensland Symphonys as well as the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Alongside his performing career, Alex has extensive teaching experience. He currently teaches at the UWA Conservatorium of Music and is a regular guest tutor with the Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camps, Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and WA Youth Orchestra.
Outside WASO, Alex has completed a Masters in Counselling and works part-time supporting adults with drug and alcohol dependency. He often speaks at youth forums to support young and emerging artists navigate professional pathways.
Alex and his wife have three children.
