Richard Dubugnon's music has been described as “driven by a playful modern sensibility” by the New York Times. Stating that his compositions act as reflections of himself at a given moment in his life, Dubugnon regards each work as a ‘variation on a theme’ of a particular period, as well as a personal diary. Gauthier Capuçon and Jean-Yves Thibaudet are both artists that regularly champion Dubugnon’s music.
In 2017, Naxos released recordings of a selection of Arcanes Symphoniques ‘tarot cards for orchestra’, one of Dubugnon’s most globally successful works, leading The Guardian to write that the ‘joy in the orchestra’s swooning sonic possibilities is everywhere evident’. For the 2016/2017 season Richard was composer-in-residence with the Winterthur Musikkollegium (Thomas Zehtmaier).

Gautier Capuçon
Gautier Capuçon is a true 21st century ambassador for the cello. He is acclaimed internationally for his deeply expressive musicianship and exuberant virtuosity, as well as for the glorious sonority of his 1701 Matteo Goffriller cello.
Born in Chambéry in 1981, Capuçon began playing the cello at the age of five. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris with Philippe Muller and Annie Cochet-Zakine, and later with Heinrich Schiff in Vienna. The winner of various first prizes in many leading international competitions, including the International André Navarra Prize, Capuçon was named 'New Talent of the Year' by Victoires de la Musique in 2001.
“It's the rare performer who can bring such ease and refinement to this music.”
Jean-Yves Thibaudet
For more than three decades, Jean-Yves Thibaudet has performed world-wide, recorded more than 50 albums, and built a reputation as one of today’s finest pianists. From the very start of his career, he delighted in music beyond the standard repertoire, from jazz to opera, which he transcribed himself to play on the piano. His profound professional friendships crisscross the globe and have led to spontaneous and fruitful collaborations in film, fashion, and visual art.
Jean-Yves Thibaudet was born in Lyon, France, where he began his piano studies at age five and made his first public appearance at age seven. In 2010 the Hollywood Bowl honored Thibaudet for his musical achievements by inducting him into its Hall of Fame.
