Debussy’s symphonic poem, Prélude à 'L’après-midi d’un faune' evokes the languorous heat of a summer afternoon with its dreamy flutes and luscious orchestral colours. Japanese-born Canadian violinist Karen Gomyo returns to WASO, bringing her musical vitality and radiant sound to Barber’s expressive concerto.
The Symphony in D minor is Franck’s most remarkable and radical work, its ambitious fusion of French and German musical traditions delivering soaring lyricism and spiritual depth.
