It is with sadness that we farewell our Associate Principal Cello, Louise McKay, after a tenure of seven and a half years with WASO.

Louise is moving from Perth to be with her partner in Leipzig, Germany and although she is saddened to be leaving her colleagues and the WASO community, she is looking forward to the new opportunities and adventures that life in Europe will bring.

During her time with WASO Louise played an integral role in the organisation, both artistically and culturally. Aside from being an outstanding musician, Louise has contributed significantly to the cultural life of the Orchestra, giving her time freely to orchestral committees throughout the years.

Fortuitously, Louise travelled to Germany in 2016 with the support of the Friends of WASO Scholarship to study alongside renowned cellist, Professor David Geringas. This provided an invaluable introduction to the German music world and hopefully a helping hand for her new life there. Louise wished to pass on the below message to WASO’s Patrons & Friends:

‘Thank you, dear Patrons and Friends, for your ongoing support of the orchestra and for your contributions to the scholarship I received in 2016. You form such a lovely community around the Orchestra - I will really miss your friendly faces in the audience and chatting to you in the foyer after concerts. Thank you all for making me feel so welcome in this orchestra over the last seven and a half years - I really hope this isn't the end of my relationship with WASO or any of you!’

Louise played her last concert with WASO at Sunday evening’s Twilight Chamber Gala as part of WASO’s Festival at Chamber Music at Government House.

Louise’s passion, commitment and artistry will be dearly missed by all of us at WASO, but we are very excited for her and wish her the best of luck with her new adventure.

WASO would like to thank Penrhos College for supporting Louise in her position as Associate Principal Cello since 2015.
