Olivia Davies awarded national residency
17.10.2022
The residency will see Olivia continue in her three-year position as WASO’s Composer in Residence, whilst working out of the Peggy Glanville-Hicks House in Sydney for a 12-month period.
Composer Peggy Glanville-Hicks bequeathed her terrace home in Paddington, Sydney as a haven for composers and since 1994, the building has housed 28 different Australian artists for long-term residencies.
In 2016 the National Trust of Western Australia offered Gallop House in Perth as an additional location, with the two buildings now forming the Prelude Program, a national network of residencies. Jae Laffer; producer, musician and lead singer and songwriter of The Panics, will take up residency in the Gallop House next year as the other recipient of a 2023 Prelude residency.
Both West Australian composers will spend the term of their residencies writing music and developing their craft, with Olivia set to compose new works for WASO during the period.
“I’m so grateful to have received this residency. I’m really looking forward to being in the house and having the time to focus on creating new music as well as to reconnect with peers and make new connections. For me it’s an incredible opportunity for growth.” – Olivia Davies.
WASO is delighted that our own Composer in Residence has been recognised again on a national scale, and we look forward to hearing Olivia’s new works.
Olivia Davies’ next world premiere work with WASO will be performed as part of WASO Chorus Sings: Serenity.
