At WASO, we often describe our Orchestra as a family. Well, for some that’s a little truer than most.

Sisters Rebecca Glorie and Andrea Mendham, both accomplished violinists, are full-time members of WASO – a rare and prestigious achievement in the competitive world of classical music. The pair will be performing on stage together this week in the highly anticipated event, Frozen in Concert on July 12 and 13 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. This concert, which features the beloved songs and score from Disney's Frozen, will be one of those rare moments where life imitates arts.

Their remarkable journey as professional musicians has been a testament to their dedication, talent, and the strong bond they share as siblings, much like the beloved sisters of Frozen, Elsa and Anna. In fact, family has been an important influence on both of their careers.

Rebecca, who joined WASO in 2003, originally chose to learn violin at the age of 8 because of her older sister (who also played). Her love of the instrument grew and has seen her perform worldwide with various ensembles, including as part of WASO’s tour to Abu Dhabi and China.

Andrea joined WASO in 2023, however it was not the first time her and Rebecca played together. Andrea recalls, “My first musical memory is playing violin trios with my older sisters. I was only little and not formally learning yet, but I remember wanting to be just like Bec (WASO violinist Rebecca Glorie) and Deb so got out my tiny violin and stood on stage with them.”

Beyond their professional achievements, Rebecca and Andrea are also mothers to young children. Rebecca’s twin girls are ardent fans of Frozen. "Our kids really love Frozen," said Rebecca with a smile. "It's very special to be able to bring this story to life through our music knowing how much excitement it would bring my girls.”

Andrea added, “Working alongside my sister in WASO is lots of fun. Playing music such as this allows us to share our enjoyment of music with not just our family but other families.”

“We enjoy playing concerts like Frozen as it’s really lovely to see the excitement of the audience, especially the little ones.”

Frozen in Concert is an enchanting experience for all ages. The live performance by WASO, accompanied by all the action and adventure of the complete film on a giant screen above, will immerse the audience in the magical world of Arendelle. Don't miss the chance to see Rebecca Glorie and Andrea Mendham, the talented sister duo, as they bring the magic of Frozen to life.
