What’s with the shapes?
18.12.2024
In 2025 we’re making our way around Perth to perform in some of the city’s most iconic venues.
If you’ve seen our season brochure (available digitally here) or browsed our What’s On page, you would have noticed the distinct colours and shapes that ground our 2025 events. Inspired by the architectural beauty of our performance venues, these elements represent a fresh visual identity that can help you easily find your favourite new series and venues throughout the year.
Explore the 2025 Season below.
MACA Symphonic Series
Reminiscent of the building’s iconic archways, a red arch means you’ll find yourself at Winthrop Hall in the stunning grounds of The University of Western Australia. WASO’s new home for powerful classics, the majestic architecture of this well-known Perth venue provides the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening of symphonic brilliance.
Winthrop Hall is also where you’ll find our Classical Special Events – from a Viennese operetta to a divine ritual, and a long-awaited celebration of one of the greatest composers of all time.
Matinee Symphony Series
Inspired by the shining bronze columns that drape from the ceiling, blue rectangles indicate concerts at the Heath Ledger Theatre at the State Theatre Centre of WA. Sleek and modern, the State Theatre Centre is the jewel in the crown of Perth’s vibrant cultural precinct and the ideal place to enjoy one-hour daytime symphonies.
This year, we’re expanding our Matinee offering with morning (10.30am) and afternoon (1.30pm) performances so you can hear more of the music you love.
Baroque Series
Elegant and opulent, His Majesty’s Theatre is one of Perth most-loved heritage venues and the only place we could imagine hosting our new Baroque Series. Reflective of the theatre’s impressive dome roof and strong ties to the Gold Rush boom, a yellow circle is the marker for those seeking out the musical thrills of the Baroque era.
With one of Australia’s leading Baroque proponents, Shaun Lee-Chen, at the helm, this unique two-part series will allow you to experience the full exuberance of the period like never before.
Chamber Series
Inspired by the rooftops of the historic Government House, the orange turret symbolises our Chamber Music Series at Government House Ballroom. With all the warmth and charm of its icon, this series welcomes you into an inviting and intimate space as our WASO musicians step into the spotlight.
Curated from music selected by members of the Orchestra, this is your chance to experience their individual artistry on a personal musical journey that brings you closer to the musicians of WASO.
Underground Series
Those wanting to push the sonic envelope should look out for the dark blue square which shows concerts at Studio Underground at the State Theatre Centre of WA. Discover music from the best local, national and international composers of today in the immersive black box theatre environment of our Underground Series.
Whether it’s a genre-crossing exploration of global music or a snapshot of the modern Australian orchestral scene, there are plenty of creative powerhouses to uncover in this bold new series.
Special Events
For the perfect family outing, the pink arrow points you in the direction of our Special Events! The final shape of the season is inspired by the long-time home of our WASO at the Movies series – the Riverside Theatre at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
We’re returning to the Riverside Theatre to present Jurassic Park in Concert, Star Wars: The Last Jedi in Concert, and a tribute to one of the biggest names in cinematic music – The Music of John Williams.
Other Special Events of the season include family concert Classic Adventures: Witches & Wizards at Heath Ledger Theatre and WASO Chorus Sings: Sacred at St Mary’s Cathedral.
