IMPORTANT UPDATE: Symphonic Stories Postponed Until Further Notice

Following the Perth 3-day lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19, some restrictions remain in place for gatherings and events for this week.

Unfortunately, the Government restrictions around gatherings for this week prohibit preparation and rehearsals for the Masters Series performance of Symphonic Stories for 7.30pm Saturday 1 May, and this will be postponed.

The safety of our staff, artists, patrons and the general public is always our priority.

Please hold on to your tickets. We are working with the artists to identify a possible rescheduled date and will advise you in the coming fortnight. There is no need to call or email the box office - we will contact you shortly. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

A grand symphony, Czech rhapsodies and a dazzling concerto

Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART Symphony No.35 Haffner
Carl Maria von WEBER Clarinet Concerto No.1
Bedřich SMETANA Má Vlast: Vltava (The Moldau)
Leoš JANÁČEK Taras Bulba

Johannes Fritzsch conductor
Ashley Smith clarinet

Johannes Fritzsch, Principal Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, makes a much-anticipated return to WASO with Mozart’s grand Haffner symphony. Then, Perth’s own ‘Rock Star of the Clarinet’ Ashley Smith unleashes his talent in Weber’s ever-popular concerto. The evocative symphonic paintings: Janaček’s Taras Bulba depicts the story of the ‘free man’ in an adventurous 19th century novel, and Smetana’s heartfelt ode to his beloved Czech homeland will have you humming as you leave.

This concert is presented in accordance with the Western Australian Government’s easing of COVID-19 capacity restrictions. As a result, you may be seated with ticket holders from other households. Please continue to practise good hygiene habits and observe physical distancing where possible.
We will do everything in our power to present the program listed but, as we all know, we may have to vary the repertoire or artists should Government guidelines or travel restrictions change. If that happens, we will let you know. For more information, read our 2021 Program Changes page
